doIRC is a full fledged  IRC (GUI)  client written in JAVA. It is multi-threaded, MDI and implements  IRC, CTCP and DCC protocols and is a very user friendly and easy to use application. You will need  Java 2 runtime to execute the application.

:
Added new release 1.2. Not lot of changes but some fixes and additions. Added the hyperlink support for WWW, Mail, Channels and Users. Also improved the Tooltip text for the Nick and Ban list. The performance has also improved as compared to previous ones. Have not tested it very aggresively, so if you find any probelems please let me know. This client has been packaged (other than .tar.gz and .rpm ) with Install Anywhere Now (TM) for easy installation. This release will be the last release under version 1.x, which works both with  the JDK1.x /Swing and JDK1.2. The next release will be Version 2 and will only work with JDK2 and above. doIRC 2.0 will complete rewrite of the client with new user interface and also lot of other new features.

02/12/2000 :
Added new release 1.1 for doIRC. This version supports the "Plugins" that can be externally attached to the client. You can now support additional features using plugins. Please read the README.1st for more information and the doc provided with the program. I will refine this feature in the coming releases. I would prefer using JDK1.1.7B+ with Swing 1.1.1. I have not tested this client with Linux JDK1.2. If you encounter any problems or bugs please let me know.

Oops. Forget to tell some new features. On Linux, U**x ,NT and hopefully other multiuser systems (??), the software can be installed at one location and can be used by multiple users  without worrying about the .ini files overwriting. In this release 1.0, all the setup files are stored in the .doirc directory under user's home directory (Worked for me :-P). There are improved popup menus and new Utilities menu. Now you can view log with your choice of editor,  send e-mail with your choice of e-mail client  and do web browsing with your choice of web browser. These can all be setup in Setup option.  Also included a new Finger client, new look for DCC(File Transfer) dialog. All the toolbar buttons and menuitems enable/disable are synchronized with the type of the window open. Added client lock/unlock security feature too.

I will soon put up a new decent web page and good help at this web page atleast (when I get time) hopefully by next month. Please send me your suggestions and bugs so that I can fix it. I would like to make the program Open-Source(hopefully GPL), suggestions/information  for the download site and maintenance is welcome.

The 1st release of the doirc is here. It is totally event oriented and fixed some bugs (the ones I came to know). May come out with new modifications later on. Need to change the setup.ini format from old creepy .ini style to XML. Need to make the client more customizable and will do that probably in next release. Any new features or bugs please let me know.

06/27/1999 :

Added new release with new features. JAVA is fun to work with. This time I am adding the RPM  packaging for Linux and tar and zip format for easy unpackaging.

Note :  As for now only one user setup can be saved at the one location where ever the code is unpackaged. So if there are more than one users have to use the client they should unpackage the client into their own directory. In the next release I will adding the feature that will have the setup saved in their home directory and all user can run client from a single location.

02/01/1999 :

Changed the name of the client from bIRC to doIRC. Reason: Some people wanted it to be different name and not in line of the other clients. So please bear with me and I had the same feeling in mind.  Thanks.
